Tank container 26000 litres (6870 US gallons): 20ft Box container 15700 litres (4150 US gallons) 26000-litre ISO-Tankcontainer carries over half as much again as a 20ft container filled with 78 x 205-litre (55 US gallon) drums.
They also involve vastly reduced handling to fill, tranship, store and discharge.
The tank container has a life of up to 20 years, is easily reusable and reduces the risk of spillage during filling and discharging, or as the result of an accident.
A drum is difficult and expensive to clean, limited in terms of re-usablility and not easily or cheaply disposed of. The ease of transfer between modes of transport makes the tank container THE environmentally friendly solution, allowing the use of rail to be maximised, thus reducing road shipments and reducing both road congestion and emissions.
